Ahead of its world premiere at SXSW this March, a new trailer has arrived online for the sci-fi horror Ash.
Directed by Flying Lotus, the film sees Riya (Eiza Gonzalez) awakens on a mysterious planet and discovers her entire crew have been brutally murdered, but when Brion (Aaron Paul) arrives to rescue her the pair find themselves caught in a terrifying chain of events, unsure if they can trust one another.
Alongside Eiza González and Aaron Paul, the cast also includes Iko Uwais, Kate Elliott, Beulah Koale, and Flying Lotus. Watch the trailer below…
On the mysterious planet of Ash, Riya (González) awakens to find her crew slaughtered. When a man named Brion (Paul) arrives to rescue her, an ordeal of psychological and physical terror ensues while Riya and Brion must decide if they can trust one another to survive.
Ash arrives in cinemas on March 21st.
Trust is in short supply in the new trailer that arrived this morning for Ash, the new sci-fi horror film from Grammy Award Winner and filmmaker Flying Lotus (Kuso, V/H/S/99).
Ash will release in theaters on March 21, 2025.
Eiza González (Baby Driver) and Aaron Paul (“Breaking Bad”) star in Ash, alongside Iko Uwais (The Raid: Redemption), Beulah Koale, and Kate Elliott.
In the sci-fi horror film, “On the mysterious planet of Ash, Riya (González) awakens to find her crew slaughtered. When Brion (Paul) arrives to rescue her, an ordeal of psychological and physical terror ensues while Riya and Brion must decide if they can trust one another to survive.”
Watch the full trailer below, which sees González struggling to remember what caused her crew to die violently. Is the threat extraterrestrial or human? Either way, it’ll likely be a vivid, mind-bending watch.
The sci-fi horror film will also feature an original score by Flying Lotus. “Music gives you an ambiance. It definitely sets you up,” Gonzalez previously teased about the film. “So having this specific movie and his specific music being made at the same time was so incredibly helpful. Even little details he gave us, like, ‘I want such-and-such instrument predominantly throughout the movie,’ gave us a completely different vibe, especially for me and Aaron. We have a lot of scenes together, and our dynamic is super intense and crucial in the film, so it really made a gigantic difference.”
Ash is written by Jonni Remmler and will feature an original score composed by Flying Lotus. Neill Blomkamp (District 9) produced the feature.
Look for Ash in theaters this March. The film is then expected to make its at-home debut on the Shudder streaming service later in the year.
Eiza González and Aaron Paul are alone together on a bizarre alien world in the first trailer for Ash. The film is the first feature-length directorial effort from multihyphenate Flying Lotus. It's coming to theaters on March 21, 2025. As the trailer opens, Riya (González) wakes up on the planet Ash to find that the crew of her station have all been gruesomely slaughtered. Not only does she not remember what happened, she doesn't remember who she is or where she is, either.
Soon, she's confronted by a mysterious spacesuited intruder: Brion (Paul), who seems to know who she is and claims to have answered her distress call. But who is he, and what is the enigmatic "purpose" he claims they both have? And he isn't her only worry: what's the unusual lifeform the computer keeps warning her about? You'll be able to get to the bottom of this mystery with her this spring, only in theaters.
Who Are the Stars of Ash?

González broke out playing vampire queen Santanico Pandemonium, a role made famous by Salma Hayek, in the TV adaptation of From Dusk Till Dawn. She subsequently starred in films like Baby Driver, Alita: Battle Angel, and Godzilla vs. Kong. She can next be seen in a number of films, including Guy Ritchie's Fountain of Youth, Boots Riley's I Love Boosters, and the action comedy Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice.
Paul is most famous for playing reluctant meth cook Jesse Pinkman on Breaking Bad and its sequel film El Camino. He subsequently starred on BoJack Horseman, The Path, and Westworld. He can next be heard lending his voice to Powerplex on Invincible. The film also stars Iko Uwais (The Raid), Kate Elliott (Deathgasm), Beulah Koale (Hawaii Five-0), and director Flying Lotus. The film almost had two totally different leads; when it was first announced, it was to star Tessa Thompson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Ash was written by Jonni Remmler, and produced by Nate Bolotin and Mathew Metcalfe. Executive producers include Nick Spicer, Maxime Cottray, Aram Tertzakian, Maile Daughtery, Flying Lotus, Neill Blomkamp, Dave Brown, and Adam Riback. In addition to directing and executive producing, Flying Lotus also wrote the film's score. It is a production of XYZ Films and will be distributed by Shudder in the United States.
Ash will be released in theaters on March 21, 2025. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates, and watch the new trailer for Ash below.

Eiza González wakes up to a massacre in the full trailer for Ash, the new psychological space horror-thriller from rapper-producer-artist Flying Lotus.
Set on a distant alien planet, Riya is the sole survivor of a mysterious massacre that claimed the lives of her entire space crew. With no memory of what happened to her fellow astronauts, Riya struggles to piece together the events that have left her alone in this terrifying, unfamiliar world.
Then, a mysterious man suddenly shows up at her space station. A fellow space traveler by the name of Brion. He claims he was answering a distress call that Riya herself sent out. He has come to rescue Riya and her crew, but is shocked to discover she is the only one alive. Together, they must figure out what took place and get answers. But as Riya tries to collect the fragmented memories of the events leading to the slaughter, a terrifying thought comes over her: what if Brion isn’t who he says he is? What if he has something to do with the deaths of her crew and why she doesn’t remember a thing? Can he be trusted?
But wait! Here’s the real head-scratcher: what if this entire situation has been manufactured by an alien species that both Riya and Brion have yet to see, and they’ve become victims of some sadistic alien mind game? Now, take that in your pipe and smoke it!
In what is essentially a two-handed chamber thriller set on a remote, distant alien planet of unknown origins, Riya is played by Mexican actress Eiza González, recently seen in the Netflix series 3 Body Problem but also known for her roles in films like Baby Driver, Ambulance, Godzilla vs. Kong, and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Her screen partner, playing the mysterious Brion, is none other than Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul, coming from a stint of HBO's Westworld: Season 3 and 4.
The supporting cast includes Iko Uwais (The Raid), Beulah Koale (Hawaii Five-0), and Kate Elliott (Wentworth) as the ill-fated crew members in flashback scenes.
Featuring stunning visuals and trippy space effects, the film is directed by Grammy-winning rapper-recording artist Flying Lotus (aka Steven Ellison) who also appears as one of the crew members. He serves as the film's composer as well. The movie is his second feature film as a director, following his feature directorial debut with the 2017 surrealist horror comedy Kuso. This time, Flying Lotus is working with a script written by Swiss filmmaker Jonni Remmler.
The space thriller is executive produced by acclaimed sci-fi filmmaker Neill Blomkamp, of District 9, Elysium, and Chappie fame.
Ash is coming to theaters March 21st. It will also stream exclusively on the horror platform Shudder after the movie is done with its theatrical run. Watch the trailer, above.
The first trailer for Ash has debuted. Directed by Flying Lotus, Ash sees a woman (Eiza González) as the sole survivor after the crew she was traveling with is brutally murdered. She must figure out if she can trust the man (Aaron Paul) who has been sent to help her on the planet where she is stranded. Neil Blomkamp, director and co-writer of the critically acclaimed alien film District 9, is an executive producer on the Alien-like science-fiction horror movie slated for a 2025 release.
Now, RLJE Films has released the first trailer featuring haunting images as González's character tries to remember what happened before she woke up and found her crew had been slaughtered. Check out the trailer below:
Paul's character tries to encourage her to remember what happened as they traverse the mysterious planet they find themselves on and are confronted by frightening forces. Meanwhile, the motivations of Paul’s character remain unclear as González's character tries to figure out if he is an ally or foe.
What This First Trailer Means For Ash
It Looks Perfect For Alien Fans
Ash's blend of science-fiction, horror, and haunting imagery feels very reminiscent of the Alien franchise. After the success of Alien: Romulus, there is clearly more of an appetite for a science-fiction horror story with compelling visual cinematography. The trailer for Ash is intentionally light on plot details as it instead strives to leave a strong visual and tonal impact on the viewer, an impact that teases cosmic and horrifying possibilities for these characters.

From González's role as Auggie Salazar in Netflix's 3 Body Problem to Paul's role as Caleb Nichols in Westworld seasons 3 and 4, both actors are experienced at bringing thought-provoking science-fiction stories to life. They will continue to do so in Ash, which is fittingly produced by Blomkamp. His directorial feature film debut, District 9, remains a particularly unsettling work of science-fiction, and Ash is poised to continue following in those footsteps.
Our Take On The Ash Trailer
Ash's Trailer Has The Right Amount Of Intrigue
Eiza Gonzalez as Auggie in 3 Body Problem
Ash looks like it has all the ingredients to please fans of science-fiction horror and the Alien franchise with its original story. There is already a palpable sense of mystery as González's character tries to piece together why all her crew members were killed and whether she can trust Paul's character. What she sees in the sky at the end of the trailer suggests that these questions are only the tip of the iceberg, though, and that she is on the precipice of a more consequential discovery in Ash.

Eiza González Reyna (born 30 January 1990) is a Mexican actress and singer. She gained popularity for starring in the Argentine Nickelodeon teen sitcom Sueña conmigo (2010–2011). As a singer, she released the albums Contracorriente (2009) and Te Acordarás de Mí (2012).
González has since starred in the American horror series From Dusk till Dawn: The Series (2014–2016), and the action films Baby Driver (2017), Alita: Battle Angel (2019), Bloodshot (2020), and Ambulance (2022). In 2024, she starred in the science fiction series 3 Body Problem and the spy action-comedy film The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.
Early life and education
González was born on 30 January 1990 in Caborca, Sonora, Mexico,[1] the only daughter of former model Glenda Reyna and Carlos González. Her father died in a motorcycle accident when she was 12; she has cited her father's death as a strong influence in her career.[2] She has one brother who is 12 years older.[3]
She attended two private bilingual schools, Edron Academy and the American School Foundation, both located in Mexico City.[3][4] She stayed in Trento, Italy, where she has relatives, for some time when she was around 10, to learn Italian.[5]
From 2003 through 2004, González studied acting at the M&M Studio, an acting school in Mexico City run by actress Patricia Reyes Spíndola.[3] She completed two years of a three-year course at Televisa's acting school, Centro de Educación Artística, before she was cast as the protagonist in the 2007 teen-oriented telenovela Lola...Érase una vez at the age of 16.[citation needed]
Career
González made her television debut as Lola in Lola...Érase una vez. Years later, she starred in El Rey Network's From Dusk till Dawn: The Series.
While attending school, she was first spotted by producer and director, Pedro Damián, best known for his success with Latin pop band RBD.[citation needed] Two years later, Damian cast González in a remake of Argentina's famous children's telenovela, Floricienta. She portrayed Lola Valente, the lead female protagonist in Lola, érase una vez. The show began filming in late 2006, and debuted in Mexico on 26 February 2007. It was later shown in various countries throughout Latin America and the United States. Following the completion of Lola, érase una vez, González, accompanied by her mother, moved to New York City briefly in the spring of 2008 to attend a three-month course of acting classes at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. She returned to Mexico City in early fall of that same year.[6]
In April 2009, she was cast in an episode of the popular crime drama television series Mujeres Asesinas as a supporting character for the second season. She starred in the episode "Tere, Desconfiada", playing the teenage antagonist, Gaby. González has said that she was told about the casting call while she was preparing to release her first solo album Contracorriente.[7]
In 2010, Nickelodeon announced that González would be starring in teen sitcom Sueña conmigo, where she played the characters of Clara Molina and Roxy Pop.[8][9] For the role, González traveled to Buenos Aires to film in April 2010. She lived in Buenos Aires for a year, traveling back to Mexico City on breaks during the production of the series. When filming ended in February 2011, Gonzalez returned to Mexico City. The show was produced by Nickelodeon and Televisa, and aired on 20 July 2010 in Latin America and Europe. Because of its success in Argentina, the cast performed several concerts in cities in that country from March to July 2011.[10]
In 2012, González filmed Casi 30, a comedy-drama directed by Alejandro Sugich. González plays Cristina, an 18-year-old ballet student who falls in love with Emilio, the film's lead character.[11] The film marks González's acting debut in cinema. In 2013, the movie premiered at several film festivals in Mexico, but it premiered nationwide in Mexico on 22 August 2014.[12][13][14]
In 2012, González starred in the Televisa series Amores verdaderos,[15] a remake of the TV Azteca television series Amor en custodia.[16] The show premiered on 3 September 2012.[17] Originally, Mexican producer Pedro Torres offered González the lead role of Sofía López-Haro in his television show, Gossip Girl: Acapulco, the Mexican remake of the hit American television series, Gossip Girl. González considered accepting the role, but declined, due to her rigorous filming schedule for Amores verdaderos.[18]
In late August 2013, González moved to Los Angeles to pursue her acting career.[19][20] In September 2013, González was cast in director Adrian Cervantes' film, All Hail the Squash Blossom Queen. The film was slated to star Bonnie Wright of the Harry Potter film franchise, and González was expected to play Brittany in the movie, but she was later dropped from the project when the role was recast in 2015.[21][22]
In November 2013, González was announced as a cast member for producer Robert Rodriguez's television series, From Dusk till Dawn: The Series.[23] González played Santanico Pandemonium, a role portrayed by Salma Hayek in the original film. The role was González's first English-speaking part, and she also featured prominently in print advertisements for the series. The show was produced by Rodriguez for his El Rey network. González relocated to Austin, Texas, to film the program's first season. Following its U.S. debut, the show became available for streaming internationally on Netflix in the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and Latin America. On 26 March 2014, the series was renewed for a second season on El Rey.[24][25][26]
On 12 August 2014, she hosted the MTV Millennial Awards at the World Trade Center Mexico City in Mexico City.[27] In March 2015, González and the cast of From Dusk till Dawn: The Series returned to Austin, Texas, to begin filming for the show's second season.[28]
Since 2015, González has landed a string of prominent roles, appearing as Darling in Baby Driver (2017),[29] Madame M in Hobbs & Shaw (2019),[30][31] Nyssiana in the cyberpunk film Alita: Battle Angel (2019), Fran in I Care a Lot (2020), KT in Bloodshot (2020), executive Maia Simmons in Godzilla vs. Kong (2021), and paramedic Cam Thompson in Ambulance directed by Michael Bay.[32] In 2023, González appeared as "an artist and influencer" in the Apple TV+ climate change-themed anthology series Extrapolations, written and directed by Scott Z. Burns.[33] González was cast in the Netflix series adaptation of The Three-Body Problem from David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.,[34] In 2024, she starred in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare directed by Guy Ritchie.[35]
Other projects
González has been a spokesperson for numerous brands. In 2008, González was chosen as the new face of Color Trend for cosmetics brand Avon in Mexico.[36] In 2009, she filmed commercials for the skincare brand Asepxia. She was announced as the newest brand ambassador for the skincare line Neutrogena in February 2015, and filmed advertisements in both Spanish and English to promote the brand.[37]
Following the success of her debut performance in Lola, érase una vez, González signed a deal with EMI Televisa to record her own album as a solo artist in late 2008. Pre-production and recording for González's debut album, Contracorriente, called Counter-current in English, began in fall 2008; the album was recorded in Los Angeles, Texas, and Mexico City. The album was released in Mexico on 24 November 2009. It was released in the US on 26 January 2010. The album's only single, "Mi destino soy yo" was released in Mexico on 20 October 2009.[38] To promote the single, she performed at televised music festivals and concerts across Mexico.[39] Because of the Sueña conmigo musical tour in Argentina, González was unable to embark on a longer tour for the album or release a second single.
In June 2011, González announced that she wished to focus on the production and recording of her second solo album. She also revealed that she planned to spend the remainder of the year working on new music and would not return to film or television projects until the album was completed.[40] She completed production on her second album during the first months of 2012. The album was recorded in Mexico City, Texas and the Dominican Republic.[41]
The first single off her second album, "Te Acordarás de Mí", was released for digital download on iTunes for Mexico on 16 April 2012, and 22 May 2012 for the U.S. The song was co-written by González, singer-songwriter Alejandra Alberti, and Carlos Lara in Mexico City.[42] The album, also titled Te Acordarás de Mí, was released on 12 June 2012 in Mexico in physical and digital format, and digitally on iTunes the U.S. on the same day.[1][43] The album contains 12 songs, of which González co-wrote three.[44] Te Acordarás de Mí debuted at number 66 on the Mexican Charts.[45] "Invisible" was announced as the second single, and was released on the radio in Mexico on 1 August 2012.[46]
Personal life
Gonzalez speaks Italian fluently and some French.[5] In September 2015, she revealed that she struggled with depression and compulsive overeating from age 15 to age 20 as a result of her father's death.[47][48] On January 8, 2025, Gonzalez reported her home had been destroyed by the ongoing California wildfires.

Handlung
