DC plane crash black boxes found as staff shortage claims examined

The black boxes from the plane and helicopter that collided above Washington DC have been recovered as investigations continue into the cause of the crash, which likely killed all 67 people on board.

One air traffic controller was managing both aircraft at the time, raising concerns about staffing shortages at the highly controlled Reagan Washington National Airport.

While this staffing setup didn’t breach guidelines, it has been noted as “not normal.”

The incident occurred when an American Airlines flight collided with an Army Black Hawk helicopter, both crashing into the Potomac River.

Efforts to recover victims’ bodies are ongoing, the BBC has reported.

President Trump expressed condolences, speculated on potential causes, and signed measures related to diversity and the FAA’s leadership.
