The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Oscar Austin (DDG 79) left Naval Station Norfolk on September 30, 2024, for a scheduled homeport change to Naval Station Rota, Spain. Oscar Austin is the first of two Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers to join the existing Forward Deployed Naval Force-Europe (FDNF-E) force, adding capabilities to the U.S. European Command (EUCOM) and U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) areas of responsibility.
