Pastor Scott Craig kicks off Acts 21 by calling these verses "Poor Counsel." Basically, the Apostle Paul has already figured out that his mission to spread the Gospel is going to come with some serious pushback and obstacles. On his way to Jerusalem, though, he gets warned twice by people, saying that he shouldn't go. Both times, the warnings are presented as coming from the Holy Spirit.

Now, the real message here is about when people in our lives give us advice—especially if they’re telling us to not do something that we feel God has specifically called us to do. It's a bit of a head-scratcher, right? But Paul’s example shows us that, if we are absolutely certain that God is leading us in a particular direction, then we should stay faithful to that calling, even if the people around us don’t fully get it.

“What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound but even to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.” [Acts 12:13 NRSVUE]

The only thing that matters here is that we’re sure it’s God’s will guiding us. No second-guessing. 🙏💡
