American Airlines Airplane Crashes Into Amry Helicopter In DC

American Airlines Flight 5342 was a flight from Wichita, Kansas, to Washington, D.C. that crashed on January 29, 2025. The plane, an American Eagle CRJ700, collided with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter while attempting to land at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

The crash resulted in the deaths of all 64 people aboard the airliner and the three crew members on the helicopter. There were no survivors. The crash is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.

The crash occurred at approximately 9:00 PM local time.
The plane crashed into the Potomac River, near the airport.  
The weather conditions at the time of the crash were clear.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.  
Among the passengers on the plane were a group of figure skaters, coaches, and family members who were returning home from a competition in Wichita.  
The crash was the deadliest aviation accident in the United States since 2009.
