Heavy rains that started on the morning of January 28, coupled with high tides, led to widespread flooding in Sarawak and Sabah. The worst affected areas were Bintulu, Kuching, Seriyan, Miri, Siburan, Tatau, Bau and Simunjan in Sarawak, and Kota Marudu and Beaufort in Sabah.
As of the morning of January 29, 1,026 people have been evacuated in Sarawak.
Bintulu experienced some of the worst flooding in recent years on January 29 due to heavy rain and high tide, severely damaging residential areas there and leaving many families homeless.
In Sabah, 224 people were evacuated, with the largest number in Kota Marudu.
Sarawak Fire and Rescue Services have reported multiple emergency calls as people remain trapped in flooded homes and cars in Bintulu, Tatau and Miri.
A landslide has killed four people in Miri, leaving one person missing and seven survivors.
