Sundown - Banjo

Sundown is a folk song that I learned from Clifton Hicks who learned it from Art Rosenbaum. Clifton made up a verse and I added a verse partially taken from another folk song called, Dinah. Banjo in Double C tuning (relative). Index lead upstroke banjo technique. Some call it Seeger style because Pete Seeger played that way. Derroll Adams also played this style of banjo exclusively.

When you see me coming hoist your window high
When you see me leaving hang your head and cry,
At sundown at sundown the sun is nearly down
I'm going to see my true love before the sun goes down

You low down woman what makes you treat me so?
I'm going away to leave this place ain't coming back no more
At sundown at sundown the sun is nearly down
I'm going to see my true love before the sun goes down

First time I saw you no shoes upon your feet
Last time I saw you walking down the street
At sundown at sundown the sun is nearly down
I'm going to see my true love before the sun goes down

It`s raining it`s pouring, the creek is rising fast
I`m going away to leave you, ain`t never coming back
At sundown at sundown the sun is nearly down
I'm going to see my true love before the sun goes down
