Open-Ended Questions
to Help Recognize Inner Struggles & Overcome Them
1. Pride
Pride can prevent growth, damage relationships, and keep people from seeking help.
Questions to Reflect On:
Do I find it difficult to admit when I am wrong? Why?
ow do I react when someone offers me constructive criticism?
Do I struggle to ask for help, even when I need it?
Do I value being "right" more than maintaining healthy relationships?
Have I ever dismissed someone’s perspective without truly considering it?
Do I believe I am better than others in certain ways?
Ways to Overcome Pride:
Practice humility by acknowledging mistakes and apologizing.
Actively listen to others without immediately forming a rebuttal.
Ask for feedback and act on it without defensiveness.
Engage in service or volunteer work to foster empathy.
Surround yourself with people who challenge and inspire growth.

2. Denial
Denial can keep people stuck in harmful patterns and prevent healing.
Questions to Reflect On:
Are there situations in my life that I avoid thinking about? Why?
Have loved ones ever expressed concern about my behavior, but I brushed it off?
Do I minimize my problems by comparing them to others?
Do I blame others for issues that I might have contributed to?
Is there something I know I should change, but I keep making excuses?
Do I struggle to accept hard truths about myself or my circumstances?
Ways to Overcome Denial:
Acknowledge and validate your feelings instead of suppressing them.
Journal regularly to reflect on your thoughts and emotions honestly.
Talk to a trusted friend, mentor, or therapist for an outside perspective.
Take responsibility for your choices and their consequences.
Accept that facing the truth is the first step to meaningful change.

3. Fear
Fear can hold people
back from opportunities, personal growth, and fulfilling relationships.
Questions to Reflect On:
What is something I deeply want but am afraid to pursue? Why?
Have I avoided taking risks because of fear of failure or rejection?
Do I let fear of judgment dictate my choices?
How do I handle uncertainty? Does it paralyze me?
Have I ever regretted not doing something because I was afraid?
What is the worst thing that could happen if I faced my fears?
Ways to Overcome Fear:
Identify and challenge limiting beliefs that fuel fear.
Take small, gradual steps outside your comfort zone.
Visualize success rather than dwelling on failure.
Reframe fear as a learning opportunity instead of an obstacle.
Seek support from those who encourage and uplift you.

4. Trauma
Unresolved trauma can manifest in emotional distress, unhealthy relationships, and self-sabotaging behaviors.
Questions to Reflect On:
Are there past experiences that still trigger strong emotional reactions?
Do I avoid certain situations, people, or places because of past pain?
Have I developed unhealthy coping mechanisms (e.g., avoidance, anger, addiction)?
Do I struggle with trusting others or forming deep connections?
Have I convinced myself that my trauma "wasn't that bad" to avoid dealing with it?
How do I react to stress—does it feel overwhelming or unmanageable?
Ways to Heal from Trauma:
Seek professional therapy or counseling for guidance.
Practice mindfulness and grounding techniques to manage triggers.
Engage in creative outlets like journaling, art, or music to express emotions.
Establish boundaries to protect yourself from toxic influences.
Allow yourself to grieve, process, and release past pain at your own pace.
