STAR WARS Director Doesn’t Care to Follow GEORGE LUCAS’S Lore

Director James Mangold is setting his Star Wars movie in the past because he wants to be able to avoid the Star Wars lore George Lucas established.

Since Disney bought the rights to Star Wars, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has declared any previous game and novel as non-cannon. Instead of using this to create their own thing the various directors brought in have descended on the expanded universe like vultures picking and choosing elements that serve their purpose and disregarding the rest. Not only has this not ingratiated them with longtime Star Wars fans, but it demonstrates a lack of creativity. This is something that has ultimately hurt the brand.
