On July 30, 2024, U.S. Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit visit, board, search, and seizure the USS Miguel Keith (ESB 5) in the Philippine Sea. In order to delay, disrupt, or eliminate enemy forces or supplies in the marine realm, VBSS is a component of maritime interception operations. The 31st MEU regularly engages and works with friends and partners to maintain a free and open Indo-Pacific region while stationed aboard ships of the USS America Amphibious Ready Group in the 7th Fleet area of operations, which is the biggest forward-deployed numbered fleet in the U.S. Navy.
