US President Donald Trump has announced plans to fire nearly all federal employees working under his administration. As part of this move, the administration is offering employees the option to resign now while still receiving full pay and benefits through September 30. The White House has described this severance package as "generous". Employees, including civil servants and those in human resources and I.T., have received an email outlining the details of a "Deferred Resignation Programme". With over two million federal employees in total, an estimated 10 percent may take advantage of this offer.

Meanwhile, the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), the largest federal employee union, has strongly opposed the buyouts. The union has been pushing back against several executive orders Trump has signed since taking office, many of which directly impact federal workers.
