Passenger Plane With 60 Passengers On Board Collided With A Helicopter In DC

A passenger airplane with 60 people on board has crashed into a military helicopter in Washington D.C. and fell into the Potomac River near Reagan National Airport outside of Washington, DC, as it approached the runway, according to the Federal Aviation Administration and defense officials.
The flight was American Airlines Flight 5342 from Wichita, Kansas.
All takeoffs and landings have been halted.

Multiple helicopters, including those from the U.S. Park Police and the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department and U.S. military, were flying over the scene of the incident. D.C. Fire and EMS said on X that fireboats were also on the scene.
Video from an observation camera at the nearby Kennedy Center shows two sets of lights consistent with aircraft appearing to join in a fireball.
Vice President JD Vance giving a statement, calling on the nation to unite saying
“Please say a prayer for everyone involved in the mid-air collision near Reagan airport this evening. We’re monitoring the situation, but for now let’s hope for the best,” Vance wrote on a social media post on X.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that President Donald Trump has been briefed on the situation.
Defense officials have confirmed that a US Army Blackhawk was involved in the crash
American Airlines saying they are aware that American Eagle flight 5342, operated by PSA, with service from Wichita, Kansas (ICT) to Washington Reagan National Airport (DCA) has been involved in an incident, saying they will provide information as it becomes available.”
