"An outcast who became one of the most famous kings who ever lived..." You know his name. You know the legend. Now experience the journey – if you're ready. Prime Video has unveiled an official trailer for a new Biblical epic series called House of David, telling the iconic David vs. Goliath story (from the Book of Samuel) on screen. We all know this classic fable, which is used often today as a reference for an individual taking on a corporation or government, but this is actually going back to tell the original story from history. The once-mighty King Saul falls victim to his own pride, as an outcast shepherd boy, David is anointed as the second king. This depicts Goliath as an actual giant. Newcomer Michael Iskander, who they cast after months of searching (also seen in Kimberly Akimbo on Broadway), stars as David; along with Ali Suliman as King Saul, Ayelet Zurer as Queen Ahinoam, Stephen Lang as Samuel, Indy Lewis as Mychal, and Martyn Ford as Goliath. It remains religious propaganda, as it's co-directed by Jon Gunn of the religious films The Case for Christ and Ordinary Angels. Can one stone change the course of history? I guess it can. Although this looks like it's modernized in ways that will water down the grit of the original tale in the book.

Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Prime Video's series House of David, direct from YouTube:

The first trailer for House of David has been released. The Prime Video series offers a retelling of the biblical story of David and Goliath, along with David's journey to becoming the king of Israel. Michael Iskander plays David, with this being his first role in a movie or television series. Bodybuilder and actor Martyn Ford, who has appeared in F9, The Nevers, The Sandman, and Those About to Die, plays Goliath. The cast for the Prime Video show also includes Avatar's Stephen Lang in the role of Samuel.

Now, Prime Video has debuted a trailer that showcases Goliath's gargantuan size and David's bravery as he prepares to take on such a mighty foe. While towering over the other soldiers, Goliath's guttural voice demands that a champion be sent to face him. This is followed by tracing the roots of David's story, which begins with him as a shepherd boy and an outcast. The trailer culminates with David swinging the slingshot that he will use to defeat Goliath, which will be a pivotal moment in his journey to becoming a king. Check out the trailer below:

What This Means For House Of David
David Is An Underdog Against The Giant Goliath
Goliath towering over soldiers in House of David
House of David's trailer sets the stage for a retelling of the ultimate underdog story. In this iteration, Goliath is a literal giant, which makes him an even more formidable opponent for David. This adds a larger-than-life dimension to the tale and will make it even more impressive when David kills him. Their battle is only part of the show, which is just as concerned with following David's humble beginnings, his path to facing Goliath, and becoming the king of Israel.

David's ordinary origins and the legend he becomes will be an intriguing juxtaposition that can drive home the themes of how anyone can become extraordinary and stand up to evil.

With high production value that includes large-scale battles, House of David has been made with the intent for it to join the best biblical epics of all time. The narration teases that the series will be a story-within-a-story, as David's legend is passed down to future generations long after his fight with Goliath takes place. David's ordinary origins and the legend he becomes will be an intriguing juxtaposition that can drive home the themes of how anyone can become extraordinary and stand up to evil.

Our Take On The House Of David Trailer
It Can Build Off The Success Of Another Biblical Series

House of David can build off the biblical show The Chosen, which has become popular enough for episodes to be released theatrically. One challenge that the Prime Video series may have is how to keep the story compelling when everyone knows how his fight with Goliath ends. House of David's trailer indicates that this challenge will be met by focusing on David's journey instead of the destination, which makes a streaming series a better format than a movie.
