Helene was the strongest hurricane to hit Florida's Big Bend area north of Tampa since 1851. It made landfall near Perry, Florida, late on Sept. 26, as a Category 4 hurricane with sustained winds of 140 mph. Dan Davis lives in Hudson, Florida. He and his neighbors have been without power since hurricane Helene hit the coast of Florida. Nine days after Helene flooded his neighborhood, Milton made landfall adding more damage to an already untenable situation. Hurricane Milton was the second-most intense Atlantic hurricane ever recorded over the Gulf of Mexico.

As we have heard time and time again, local charities and churches mobilized to help their neighbors, but within five weeks the Pasco County officials ran them off and resources started to dry up. Dan is what I consider, a member of one of our most vulnerable community members, disabled and living on social security, to say funds are tight is a huge understatement. Helene flooded his home, his vehicle, and both of his sheds. Dan lost everything, as saltwater filled his home, every single appliance, all of his furniture, clothing, you name it, all of it is utterly destroyed. To complicate the situation, his power tools have been decimated. Basically, everything he owned is simply gone.
Dan has been diligent about keeping us updated on the days that have a passed since he lost power. As of today, it has been 113 days, and according to the county website no permit has been approved and there is no plan approved to address this situation for any of the people in his community. If you know anyone who can help the people of Hudson, Florida please send them my way.

I have reached out to the county and have yet to hear back. If you would like to make some noise about this situation. Here are the contacts, if you'd like to bombard the offices of the people who should be helping.
