The CIA’s Gateway Experience is a classified 1983 report that details a training system designed to alter consciousness and potentially escape the confines of time and space. This program, known as the Gateway Process, was developed by Bob Monroe, a former radio executive, and involves using sound frequencies to stimulate the brain to achieve higher levels of consciousness. The CIA was interested in various forms of psychic research, including remote viewing, which is the ability to view real events psychically from a distance.

The Gateway Process was part of broader government initiatives, such as the Stargate Project, which aimed to investigate the reality and potential applications of psychic phenomena, both military and civilian. These projects were active from the 1970s to 1995, following early research conducted at the Stanford Research Institute and other laboratories. In 1995, the Stargate Project was transferred to the CIA for a retrospective evaluation.

In 2023, the CIA declassified a document titled “Analysis and Assessment of Gateway Process,” which provides a detailed account of the research initiative conducted during the Cold War. This document highlights the CIA’s interest in exploring the limits of human consciousness through techniques that manipulate brain activity using sound frequencies.
