Another name for the tsuki tree. It is used in “Manyoshu” as Iwai-tsuki, etc.
It is the name of a Japanese tree.

The “heavenly flight, the iwai-tsuki of Karu-no-yashiro, how many nights it will last, and the hidden tsumago.”

(I wonder how long she will remain a secret wife, hidden from the eyes of others, like the tsuki tree at the shrine of Karu.)

There is a story that “齊　Itsuki” is related to “五十槻　Itsuki”.
It is said that the tree of the tsuki (Japanese zelkova) came to be called “欅　zelkova” in the course of time.

However, why it came to be called zelkova remains a mystery.

There are legends in various places that the ancient emperors and their entourages gathered under the sacred tree of zelkova.
They used to gather under the tsuki tree to drink sake.

The tsuki tree grows into a huge tree, so it was used for quite a variety of construction projects.

In such cases, however, a certain family member had to perform an exorcism, etc., in order to cut down the giant tree, which in turn killed the person cutting it down.

It seems that the tree has some special meaning.
