This week we get our set up weighed. We contacted Weights on Wheels (www.weightsonwheels.com.au) while in Cairns and got weighed. We were nervous but excited to see the numbers as we absolutely want to be legal and safe on the road.

Gary and Heather are wonderful people who not only have a wealth of knowledge but are just fun people to spend a couple of hours with. Gary expertly weighed the ute and van - the mix ups with axle loading / GVM initially was due to me telling him the wrong variant of Triton and hard to find spec information from Mitsubishi. In the end we popped the bonnet and checked all the compliance plates to ensure we had the accurate figures.

So the final result was when not connected to the caravan we were only slightly over the front axle load (by 41kg - the weight of the winch essentially)
When connected the van the front axle weight was well within spec. When connected to the van we were over the ute GVM by 143kg.

Big thanks to Mark from @Ourwhittleadventure for putting me in touch with a great Engineer who sorted out our GVM upgrade! The engineer ran his figures based on the upgraded suspension that we had on the ute and signed off an extra 287kg on the GVM and the front axle.

With the Mod plate in the post and the paperwork sorted we are now 100% legal on the road even when towing the van full of water which is rare but a great option as we have the Cape coming up in a few weeks.

www.weightsonwheels.com.au - Gary and Heather are just great people and we highly recommend their service in your in the Cairns area - or on the road in the future... Watch this space as Gary and Heather may become mobile in the near future :-)
