NASA’s Perseverance rover captured this incredible selfie as it looked down at one of 10 sample tubes deposited at its carefully constructed sample depot in an area known as "Three Forks." This image was taken by the WATSON camera on the rover’s robotic arm on January 22, 2023 (Sol 684).

Meanwhile, Perseverance continues its exploration of rock outcrops along the rim of Belva Crater, while NASA’s Curiosity rover, located 2,300 miles (3,700 km) away, recently drilled a sample at a site nicknamed "Ubajara."

NASA missions assign names not just to craters and hills, but to every boulder, pebble, and rock surface they investigate—bringing Mars closer to us, one name at a time.
