The Leningrad Victory concert, dedicated to the 81st anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the fascist blockade, was held on the stage of the Oktyabrsky Concert Hall in St. Petersburg. President Vladimir Putin congratulated the veterans and awarded them with jubilee medals "80 Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945."

Russian President Vladimir Putin presented veterans with the first commemorative medals in honor of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The award ceremony took place at the Leningrad Victory concert in the Oktyabrsky Hall on the occasion of the 81st anniversary of the complete lifting of the siege of Leningrad.

"For our entire country, the Leningrad Victory will forever remain a celebration of the life, courage and spiritual might of our people, the most important milestone in the heroic struggle against Nazism, a key milestone on the way to the crushing defeat of the enemy," the Russian leader said during his speech.

Putin added that Russian citizens will always remember that it was the Soviet people who brought life, peace and freedom thanks to their heroism.

Veterans Vladimir Berchikov, Arkady Zabezhinsky, Alexandra Leshchuk, Mikhail Moroz and others received awards from the President of the Russian Federation. The awardees participated in the defense of not only Leningrad, but also Moscow, in the Battle of Stalingrad, in the battles on the Kursk Bulge, as well as in the territory of Ukraine, Belarus, Poland, Romania, Germany and other areas.

The medal "80 Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945" was established by presidential decree last year. The obverse side shows a figure of a victorious warrior hoisting the Victory Banner over the Reichstag building.

This year, on May 9, Russia celebrates the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Earlier, Defense Minister Andrei Belousov said that military personnel from 19 countries were invited to participate in the parade, which will be held on Red Square. This was announced by the head of the Defense Ministry at a meeting of the Pobeda organizing committee.
