Got Plans? God Has Plans For You Too!

Nearly everyday, we wake up with plans. They might be plans for that day, the upcoming week or long-term plans. We were created to have goals and aspirations, but God has plans for us too. We read in Proverbs 19:21,

"Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails."

God has a purpose for us. We may have plans of our own, but God's grand plan for us is bigger, better and everlasting. He tells us in Jeremiah 29:11,

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

We were created to do good things for his perfect purposes. Apostle Paul teaches in Ephesians 2:10,

"For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago."

Okay, so God has plans for us which he has prepared in advance. How can we know and understand those plans so we know we are moving in the right direction? And how can we possibly accomplish those plans when we feel unprepared or ill-equipped?

Apostle Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 9:8,

"God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work."

God gives us everything we need to be successful in every good work and in every plan He has for us. We can see an example of this in Exodus 31 where God gave Bezalel, Oholiab and the workers the knowledge and skills necessary to build the sanctuary. We read in Exodus 31:3 & 6,

"[3] I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills...[6] Also I have given ability to all the skilled workers to make everything I have commanded you."

God will ensure that we are equipped for success in all that he has for us to do and He will see every plan to its successful completion as we read in Philippians 1:6,

"...he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."

Being fully equipped by God and the Holy Spirit, what can we do on our part?

First, we need to trust God with the path laid out before us. We read in Proverbs 3:5-6,

"[5] Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; [6] in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."

When we trust and rely on God for wisdom and understanding, He will ensure that we continue on the right path and will remove the obstacles we encounter.

Secondly, we must turn to His Holy Word to guide us and keep us on a straight path. God uses His word to teach us, guide us and to speak to us as we read in 2 Timothy 3:16-17,

"[16] All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, [17] so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

Finally, we must listen. We read in John 14:26,

"the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you."

God has equipped us with the Holy Spirit as a helper in all that we do. To be able to listen to the leading of the Holy Spirit, we must spend time in the presence of God by setting time aside to be in scripture and prayer daily.

While we may have our own goals and plans, God established specific plans for each one of us before we were born. He has a purpose for each one of us, he has equipped each one of us to succeed in good works and promises to see it to completion.

We only need to trust Him with the path and rely on Him to lead us and equip us through His Word and the Holy Spirit. As we do so, he will reveal His purpose for us. Let us pray the following passage found in Psalms 90:17,

“May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us— yes, establish the work of our hands.”
