New York state trooper surrenders to police and faces charges over account of being shot and wounded

New York State Trooper Thomas Mascia faces charges of official misconduct, evidence tampering, and falsifying documents after claiming he was shot by an unknown gunman on Long Island in 2023.

His parents, Dorothy and Thomas Mascia, are also charged with firearm possession.

Mascia, suspended without pay since November, alleged he was shot by a driver in a black sedan, prompting a days-long manhunt.

However, no evidence or body camera footage supported his claims, the Associated Press has reported.
