Police shoot at suspect 5 times and miss every round!

On Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at approximately 11:48 a.m., East Division officers responded to a Person with a Weapon call at an apartment complex office in the 8500 block of John T. White Rd., following reports of a suspect displaying a gun. The first 911 caller stated that someone was trying to kill him and was in fear for his life, repeatedly asking for police to come now. An additional 911 caller stated that an armed man, later identified as 42-year-old Deron Morris, had been seen standing outside the leasing office, and allegedly pointed a gun at a resident. When the officer arrived, she located Morris in the parking lot facing the front office, pulling out a firearm and then placing it back in his waistband.

In response, the officer drew her service weapon and started giving him commands, to which he did not comply. Morris continued to walk toward the officer with the gun in his waistband and in the direction of innocent bystanders in an occupied vehicle. Still refusing to listen to commands, Morris stopped walking, reached into his waistband where the gun was located, and then turned to look at the officer. Fearing for her safety and the safety of individuals that Morris had placed himself in close proximity to, the officer fired her service weapon at him multiple times.

Morris was not struck. He then ran away from officers, lost his handgun from his waistband, and barricaded himself inside his apartment. Officers established a perimeter around the area, and after a brief standoff, Morris was taken into custody without further incident. Investigators recovered two guns. No officers or civilians were injured. Per department policy, the officer was placed on Significant Event Leave following the shooting but has since returned to work. Morris remains in the Tarrant County Jail on a $100,000 bond. He is charged with five counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and one count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon against a Public Servant.
