Idaho, known as the "Gem State," has a rich history that includes its Indigenous cultures, early exploration, and significant economic growth driven by the gold rush of the 1860s. Originally inhabited by Native American tribes such as the Nez Perce and Shoshone, the region was explored by Lewis and Clark in the early 1800s. The discovery of gold led to a surge in settlers and the establishment of mining towns. Idaho became a U.S. territory in 1863 and achieved statehood on July 3, 1890. Today, it is recognized for its agricultural production, particularly potatoes, and its stunning natural landscapes.
