Former socialist minister José Luis Ábalos is at the epicentre of a corruption scandal that is being investigated by the United States Department of Justice. According to the latest information, Ábalos is allegedly linked to a plot linked to the looting of the Venezuelan public oil company PDVSA, through a company called Have Got Time, which is said to have provided him with personal benefits, including a luxury villa in Sotogrande.

The investigation suggests that between Have Got Time and another company, Nortlife S.L., there were business relations that are documented in the bankruptcy report of the former. This link is particularly relevant because Nortlife appears as a creditor in the Have Got Time bankruptcy, which suggests a possible flow of undue benefits to Ábalos, including the acquisition of his villa, allegedly at the expense of the millions of euros in VAT that Have Got Time is said to have defrauded.

According to sources close to the investigation, the amount of this fraud exceeds 67 million euros. The involvement of Ábalos not only raises serious doubts about his integrity, but also directly affects Pedro Sánchez's government, exposing it to a potential political storm with international reach. The plot would also be linked to the Gaslow scandal, whose cost to the Spanish people is estimated at around 1,000 million euros, further raising suspicions of widespread corruption in the Executive.
