WHAT GERMANY TAUGHT ME ABOUT TARIFFS

Since the Democrats launched their new catchphrase "It's the consumer who pays for the tariffs, dummy!" a month or so ago, everyone has been repeating it, including here in Germany.

Ironically, Germany happens to be a successfully protectionist country and tariffs are an important part of its economy –though that doesn't stop them from criticizing Trump's tariffs.
