The Son of the Ferocious Ages!

Episode One Hundred and Forty-Four.

The Human bait.

Unaware that he himself was being observed, the son of Crao watched the bamboo stuck in the sand.
He does not belong to any of the shore clans! He must be killed!
Yes. When we know what he is up to!

Oh. This time Rahan has a nice one!
Rahan had jumped onto the bamboo which had suddenly bent.

The swordfish, which quickly sprang out of the water, sparkled for a moment in the sun.
A spearfish!

Page Two.

Then he disappeared back into the depths, trying in vain to escape from the man's trap.

If the "Wooden Fang" does not break, Rahan will bring the spear-fish back to the beach!
Too busy, the son of Crao did not hear the sand crunching.

Argh!
Vlang!
Do not let the spearfish escape with the trap, Gaak!

Kill him!
Not yet, Gaak! The flame-haired stranger may have other secrets!
We will bring him back to the village!

The first thing Rahan saw when he came to his senses was the large swordfish lying next to him.
Ours saw you capture the spear-fish with that trap, "fire-hair!"
You must deliver your secret to us, or else.

Page Three.

The leader brandished Rahan's "Spear".
I will kill you with your own Harpoon if you do not help us capture "Bawanka"!

Rahan does not need to be threatened to come to the aid of "Those-Who-Walk-Upright"!
He always does. When he can!

But who is this "Bawanka" who seems to terrorize the clan!?
It is a monstrous "Blue-skin" almost as long as a spear throw! Here it is, exactly.

Here is Rahan's secret. A simple pointed shower on which we put a bait.
The son of Crao told how the idea of a fish trap had come to him long ago.

For a brief moment, the dorsal fin of a shark appeared offshore. A huge dorsal fin.
This "Blue Skin" must be gigantic and formidable!
"Bawanka" is more formidable than anything you can imagine, Rahan!
We saw it, one day.

Page Four.

Turn a raft over with a single swipe of the tail and instantly tear apart the four fishermen riding it!

We have lost count of the number of times that "Bawanka" has escaped our arrows or our harpoons!

But your "Fish Trap" gives me an idea, fire hair!
It would be enough to make an identical trap, but a thousand times stronger.

It would indeed be possible!
But it would require a bait that is worthy of this trap and of "Bawanka!
This bait is all found, fire-hair!

"Bawanka" is very fond of human flesh. You will be a perfect bait!
Huh! What. What are you saying?

Page Five.

For the son of Crao, there is no time to be indignant, nor to dodge the terrible blow of the club.
Vlang!
Argh!

When he came to his senses, screeching seagulls were escorting the large raft that was carrying him out to sea.

The huge hook, which was a giant replica of the one he had used to catch the "Spearfish"!

Knowing that he would not be able to break his bonds, Rahan tensed his muscles to stretch them.
We could have killed you, but we are sure that "Bawanka" would prefer a living bait!

Here he is!
When he is trapped, it will probably take a long time to exhaust and disembowel him without risk, but we will succeed!

And Gahor the leader will become for all the clans of the shore "Gahor the brave", "Gahor the savior"! Go ahead, brothers!
Do not keep "Bawanka" waiting!

Page Six.

The bonds that bound Rahan's wrists were finally loosening, when.
Gahor's men suddenly pushed the "Fish Trap" into the water!

If Rahan is not devoured by "Bawanka," he will drown!
Weighted down by a heavy rock, the hook sank into the depths.

Rahan does not want to join the shadow territory. Neither one way nor the other!
Rahan wants to be alive!

Alive, alive!
In a final effort, the son of Crao had just freed himself.
His lungs on fire, he returned to the surface.

Rahan cannot give up his knife to Gahor!
He imagined the men on the alert, waiting for the moment when "Bawanka" would jump into the trap.

Page Seven.

When he appeared, sucking in air with full lungs, it was stupor.
Ra-ha-ha!
Fire-hair! I should have killed you with my own hands!

A fisherman was already rushing, harpoon raised.
Rahan dodged the blow.

And did not allow him to strike a second time!
Argh!
If you want to see "Bawanka" up close, here is your chance!

The son of Crao knew that Gahor and his people would not let him get onto the raft.
Oh! Rahan knows what he has to do!

The gigantic shark, emerging from the darkness, rushed towards this prey, which was coming towards it!
An idea came to him.
He dove back into the depths, along the vine, towards the enormous "Hook" without bait.
“Bawanka!”

Page Eight.

Rahan had stuck to the "Trap" and was waving his legs to attract the monster.
Since you are fond of human flesh, attack, "Bawanka"! Attack, man-eater!

To offer oneself to the giant shark in this way was indeed incredibly audacious!
Crao-the-wise perhaps would not approve of Rahan's idea!

"Bawanka" arrived excited by the man's movements.
His frighteningly toothed mouth was about to close on this prey.

They only closed on the sharp branches of the "Hook"!
Ha-ha-ha!
Rahan is too lively for you “Bawanka”!

The shock had been so violent that only Gahor had been able to hold on, while being carried away at high speed!
"Bawanka" takes me away.
No! No! I do not want to die in the heart of the "Treeless Territory"!
Oh!

Page Nine.

"Bawanka"! is trapped!
He will eventually get exhausted and your people will be able to bring him back to shore.

The clan does not need you anymore!
But my people must not know that "Bawanka" spared you!
Gahor brandished the bamboo armed with the ivory knife.

He was about to strike when a wave submerged the raft and the two men.
Ha! What! What!

The large shark, which had just tried to free itself by diving towards the depths, had to return between two waters.

And the spear had changed hands!
You are right, Gahor!
Rahan has no place among such unwelcoming men!
Back off. Back off!

Page Ten.

Be cursed, fire-hair!
May the evil spirits take you!
Carry-off Rahan?
“Bawanka” takes care of it! Ha-ha-ha!

The inhospitable island had disappeared on the horizon, but the clear laughter of the son of Crao still rang out in the wind of the open sea.
Ha-ha-ha!
Rahan probably owes his life to you, "Bawanka"!

And he sees only one way to pay his debt!
This one!
The fish trap vine, sheared, snapped like a whip.
Zlac!

Rahan imagined for a moment the great shark freed, finding its kingdom of blue shadows and the silence of the depths.

A new land was outlined in the west, towards which the currents pushed him.
Scarcely had one adventure ended than another awaited him.
For such was, in those fierce times, the destiny of Rahan, the son of Crao.
