Popes: Julius III #219, VRP Papal History.
Serving as the head of the Catholic Church from 1550 to 1555, Julius III is known for his patronage of the arts. He commissioned the construction of the Villa Giulia in Rome and supported Renaissance artists like Michelangelo and Vasari. His papacy also saw efforts to moderate the Roman Catholic response to the Protestant Reformation, although his political influence was somewhat limited due to the ongoing struggles between Catholic factions.
