It's morphed and twisted aggressively since then into something that our forefathers would barely recognize with different hours, rules, expectations and even, often, a physical product you can show off as fruit of your labor. While our general recollection of the 50s is a gauzy memory of movies and TV from the era and about the era, it's likely safe to say there weren't many women or minorities in positions of power.
