Prov 1:2
To know wisdom and instruction, To discern the sayings of understanding,

The Hebrew word for wisdom is hokmah. It can be defined as "the proper application of knowledge" or "the ability to discern between good and evil, right and wrong." Elohim tells us that wisdom (Heb. chokmah) is keeping His Torah.

Deut 4:4-6 “But you who held fast to the LORD your God are alive today, every one of you. 5“See, I have taught you statutes and judgments just as the LORD my God commanded me, that you should do thus in the land where you are entering to possess it. 6“So keep and do them, for that is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples who will hear all these statutes and say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.’

In Scriptures keeping His Torah is tied together with fearing Elohim.

Job 28:28 “And to man He said, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; And to depart from evil is understanding.’”

Psalm 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

Psalm 111:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments; His praise endures forever.

Psalm 119:98-100 Thy commandments make me wiser than my enemies, For they are ever mine. 99I have more insight than all my teachers, For Thy testimonies are my meditation. 100I understand more than the aged, Because I have observed Thy precepts.

Jer 8:9 “The wise men are put to shame, They are dismayed and caught; Behold, they have rejected the word of the LORD, And what kind of wisdom do they have?

Paul knew that wisdom that leads to salvation comes from Torah.

2 Tim. 3:14-17 You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them; 15and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

Solomon was qualified to write on the subject of wisdom because he was granted wisdom by Elohim.

1 Kings 3:5-12 In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream at night; and God said, “Ask what you wish me to give you.” 6Then Solomon said, “Thou hast shown great lovingkindness to Thy servant David my father, according as he walked before Thee in truth and righteousness and uprightness of heart toward Thee; and Thou hast reserved for him this great lovingkindness, that Thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. 7“And now, O LORD my God, Thou hast made Thy servant king in place of my father David, yet I am but a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in. 8“And Thy servant is in the midst of Thy people which Thou hast chosen, a great people who cannot be numbered or counted for multitude. 9“So give Thy servant an understanding heart to judge Thy people to discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Thine?” 10And it was pleasing in the sight of the Lord that Solomon had asked this thing. 11And God said to him, “Because you have asked this thing and have not asked for yourself long life, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have you asked for the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself discernment to understand justice, 12behold, I have done according to your words. Behold, I have given you a wise and discerning heart, so that there has been no one like you before you, nor shall one like you arise after you.
