The Paul Skenes baseball card drama has turned the sports memorabilia world on its head. Misha the Turtle breaks down how it all went down:

The Card

An 11-year-old collector in Los Angeles cracked open a pack of 2024 Topps Chrome Update and hit the jackpot—a 1-of-1 Paul Skenes rookie card. This wasn’t your average rookie card, either. It came loaded with:
⁃Skenes’ autograph
⁃A patch from his debut MLB game-worn jersey
⁃A pristine PSA 10 grade

The Pirates’ Big Play

The Pittsburgh Pirates didn’t waste time. They swung for the fences with a mind-blowing trade offer to the young collector:
⁃Two behind-home-plate season tickets for 30 years
⁃A softball game at PNC Park with 30 friends
⁃VIP treatment at spring training
⁃A personal meet-and-greet with Skenes
⁃Two autographed Skenes jerseys

Livvy Dunne’s Sweetener

As if that wasn’t enough, Livvy Dunne—Skenes’ girlfriend and LSU gymnastics star—threw in a VIP invite to watch a game from her suite at PNC Park.

The Decision

Despite the Pirates’ generosity, the kid wasn’t biting. Instead, they opted to auction the card through Fanatics Collect as part of the March Premier collection.

Auction With a Cause?

The card’s expected to hit six figures, maybe even crack $1 million thanks to that flawless PSA 10. Apparently, the auction proceeds will go toward fire relief efforts in Los Angeles.

Pirates Mad Like a Jealous Ex? Nahh

The Pirates still offered the the young fan a special day at PNC Park next season.
