American Newsreel 1936 - Alcazar de Toledo, Spain

Historical footage from a contemporaneous American newsreel after the lifting of the siege of the Alcázar de Toledo in central Spain, during the first stages of the Spanish Civil War.
The Alcázar de Toledo, garrisoned by rebel forces, survived a fierce siege by Loyalists from late July to September 28th, 1936. The siege and the lifting of the siege were a major propaganda defeat for the Loyalist side.
The Spanish Civil War, spanning from July 1936 to April 1939, ended with the victory of the Rebel forces under General Franco's leadership.
