The Alabama Hills, located near Lone Pine, California, are a range of rounded rock formations and hills set against the backdrop of the towering Sierra Nevada mountains, including Mount Whitney. This area is renowned for its unique geological features, stunning scenery, and its popularity as a filming location for movies and television shows.
One of the most famous features is the Mobius Arch, a naturally occurring rock arch that perfectly frames Mount Whitney in the background.
The hills were named by Southern sympathizers after the CSS Alabama, a Confederate warship, during the Civil War.
The area has been a popular filming location since the early 1920s. Over 400 movies, including Westerns and science fiction films, as well as numerous television shows, have been shot here. Famous films include "Gunga Din," "Gladiator," and "Iron Man."

After checking out the hills, we made our way over to Mount Whitney.
Mount Whitney, the tallest mountain in the contiguous United States, stands at an elevation of 14,505 feet. The peak is located in the Sierra Nevada range of California. We hiked the most popular route to the summit is the Mount Whitney Trail, which starts at Whitney Portal, located at about 8,360 feet. The round trip was approximately 22 miles and climbed 6,145 feet from the trailhead to the summit. Check out this week's action in the Golden State!
