Senate Confirms Pete Hegseth for Defense Secretary as JD Vance Breaks Tie

The Senate confirmed Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense in a tense 51-50 vote, with Vice President JD Vance breaking the tie.

Three Republicans opposed the nomination, including Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, and Mitch McConnell.

Murkowski cited concerns about Hegseth’s past behavior, including infidelity, allegations of sexual assault, and excessive drinking.

Despite these issues, Hegseth’s supporters, including the advocacy group Concerned Veterans for America, praised his confirmation.

Hegseth, a former Fox News host and Army National Guard veteran, has promised to eliminate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion measures at the Pentagon.

However, his nomination faced last-minute challenges, including abuse allegations from his ex-sister-in-law, which were denied by Hegseth and his ex-wife, Fox News has reported.
