Russian air defences repelled a massive Ukrainian drone attack overnight, intercepting and destroying 121 drones targeting 13 regions, including Moscow, Russia's Defence Ministry said, making no mention of casualties or damage.

Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that air defence units had intercepted attacks by Ukrainian drones at four locations around the Russian capital and air defence units southeast of the capital in the Kolomna and Ramenskoye districts had repelled one group of “enemy” drones, without specifying how many were involved.

Russia's Defence Ministry said six drones had been destroyed over the Moscow region and one over the capital itself, while other drones had targeted other regions, including those that border Ukraine and Kursk, where Ukrainian troops hold a chunk of land despite Russian efforts to eject them.

Twenty drones had also targeted the Ryazan region, southeast of Moscow, the ministry said. In the Ryazan region, according to reports from the Telegram channels Astra and Baza, two fires broke out as a result of drone attacks: one at the Ryazan Oil Refinery and another at the nearby Novo-Ryazan Thermal Power Plant.

Ryazan Governor Pavel Malkov said that air defenses and electronic warfare systems had downed and diverted the drones in the region. “According to preliminary information, there are no casualties, and the material damage is being assessed,” Malkov wrote on Telegram.

Local residents posted videos of the fires at the Ryazan Oil Refinery and the region’s thermal power plant. In the Voronezh region, Governor Alexander Gusev said that air defense forces downed several drones. Debris from one of the drones reportedly shattered windows in an apartment building, but no injuries were reported.

Bryansk Governor Alexander Bogomaz said that 37 drones were intercepted and destroyed in his region, with no casualties or ground damage reported.

Authorities in the Leningrad, Saratov, Rostov, and Tula regions also reported successfully repelling drone attacks. According to preliminary information from regional officials, there were no casualties or infrastructure damage
