A pair of strategic Russian heavy bombers recently flew near a major U.S. military base in the chain of the Aleutian Islands.

The bombers were intercepted by Alaska Air Force F-22 Raptor fighters, but at no time did they enter U.S. airspace. The exercise may be an early part of this month's Vostok-2018 Russian military exercises or a training for them.

According to the Washington Free Beacon, the two Tu-95MS "Bear" bombers flew near Shemya Island in the chain of the Aleutian Islands. Shemya is home to Eareckson Air Station and the giant 120-foot high Cobra Dane early-warning radar
