IN his own words Charles Hapgood !a
My student Alfred Isroe had suggested that I try to get in touch with the spirit of Nostradamus, the great sixteenth-century astrologer and prophet, to see whether he might not make some new prophecies. I thought this a good idea, but I said nothing about it to Babbitt. Instead, I went over to his place on August 20, 1967, two days after the conversation with Lincoln, for one of his regular readings in which he does not go into trace but uses the billet. I addressed the billet to Nostradamus.
As I sat watching Babbitt sitting opposite me, holding my billet in his hand, I noticed that he seemed restless, as if something were bothering him. Then he said there was an entity present who wished to speak to me. He abruptly went into trance, and the following conversion occurred.
☯️THE HAGOOD BABBITT EXPERIENCE
Hapgood spent ten years working with New England medium Elwood Babbitt of Orange Massachusetts, making contact with notable figures from the past. Babbitt, a retired carpenter and World War II veteran, had studied trance mediumship at Edgar Cayce's Association for Research and Enlightenment. Hapgood audiotaped and transcribed a number of Babbitt's "trance lectures" from Jesus, Albert Einstein, Mark Twain, and the Vishnu FORCE, using the material to publish his final three books:Voices of Spirit, Through the Psychic Experience of Elwood Babbitt (1975), Talks with Christ and His Teachers Through the Psychic Gift of Elwood Babbitt (1981), and The God Within: a Testament of Vishnu, a Handbook for the Spiritual Renaissance (1982).

During this time Babbitt and Hapgood's cousin, Beth Hapgood worked closely with the nearby Brotherhood of the Spirit New Age commune. After Charles Hapgood's death, Beth Hapgood, assembled a final volume of Babbitt's trance lectures, Dare the Vision and Endure (1997).

NOTE: Charles Hutchins Hapgood was an American college professor and author who became one of the best known advocates of the pseudoarchaeological claim of a rapid and recent pole shift with catastrophic results.
Elwood Donald Babbitt was an American psychic, clairvoyant, and full trance medium born on November 26, 1921, in Orange, Massachusetts, to Roy and Alma Babbitt. Known as the "Medium of Massachusetts," Babbitt was recognized for his purported psychic abilities from childhood. His activities were encouraged by his family, leading him to engage with spiritualist communities like Lake Pleasant, Massachusetts.

Babbitt served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in the Second Marine Division, where he claimed to have predicted events like the attack on Pearl Harbor. Post-war, he utilized his alleged psychic gifts to guide young people and provide "life readings" to individuals seeking spiritual guidance. His involvement with spirituality deepened when he met Charles Hapgood, a professor at Keene State College, who collaborated with Babbitt on several books:

- **"Voices of Spirit"** (1975) - A scientific and historical approach to mediumship.
- **"The God Within: A Testament of Vishnu"** (1982) - Contains transcriptions of trance lectures purportedly from the Vishnu Force.
- **"Talks with Christ and His Teachers"** - Another compilation of trance communications.

Babbitt also became involved with the Brotherhood of the Spirit commune (later renamed the Renaissance Community) in Massachusetts, where he served as a spiritual mentor. He founded the Caduceus School, promoting educational freedom, which contributed to the broader acceptance of homeschooling in Massachusetts.

His work included channeling various entities, including historical figures like Jesus Christ, Albert Einstein, and Mark Twain, among others, and discussing a wide range of topics from past lives to health and sexuality. Babbitt's lectures and channeled material were preserved on numerous tapes, and his philosophies are considered by some to offer timeless spiritual guidance.

Elwood Babbitt passed away on April 25, 2001. His legacy includes his written works, his role in spiritualist movements, and his influence on alternative education practices.
