From Christopher Landon, the mind behind Happy Death Day and Freaky, comes a chilling new take on modern dating horrors. Emmy-nominee Meghann Fahy (White Lotus, The Perfect Couple) stars as Violet, a widow whose return to the dating scene spirals into nightmare territory when anonymous threats start lighting up her phone. Her mission? Kill her dreamy dinner date Henry (Brandon Sklenar, It Ends with Us) – or her family pays the price.
Drop arrives in cinemas on April 11th.
Five years after “Freaky,” Christopher Landon is back with another Blumhouse fright fest. This time, everyone’s a suspect.
In the official trailer for “Drop,” Meghann Fahy (“The White Lotus,” “The Perfect Couple”) stars as the widowed Violet, who takes a step back into the world of dating. However, things soon spiral out of control when she begins getting anonymous airdrop messages sent to her phone, demanding that she kill the dreamy man she’s on a date with. If she doesn’t, then her kids will die.
Fahy was recently Emmy-nominated for her supporting performance in the second season of “The White Lotus,” while her date is played by “It Ends with Us” actor Brandon Sklenar. The cast also includes Violett Beane, Travis Nelson, Fiona Browne, Gabrielle Ryan, Tara Mae and Stephanie Karam.

“Drop” is written by Jillian Jacobs and Christopher Roach, who previously worked together on “Truth or Dare” and “Fantasy Island.” Notably, Landon went on to make “Drop” after the first version of “Scream VII” fell apart and he exited the project back in December 2023. As horror fans may remember, he took to X to explain that “it was a dream job that turned into a nightmare. And my heart did break for everyone involved. Everyone. But it’s time to move on.”

Drop's first trailer has arrived, teasing the intense new Blumhouse horror thriller movie. Directed by Christopher Landon, the director behind Happy Death Day (2017), the upcoming film follows a woman on a first date that takes a dark turn after she is bombarded with threatening text messages about her son. The Drop cast features Meghann Fahy of The White Lotus fame in the lead role as Violet, with 1923 cast member Brandon Skelnar playing Henry, her mysterious date.
Blumhouse now releases the first trailer for Drop, teasing a twisting and unpredictable thrill ride. The trailer features Violet's date getting off to a positive though somewhat awkward start, but things take a dark turn when someone in the restaurant they're in starts airdropping her ominous messages. As Violent tries to determine who in the restaurant is responsible, she finds herself racing against the clock to save her son's life after being ordered to kill Henry. Check out the trailer below:
What The Drop Trailer Means For The Movie
This Is A Classic Blumhouse Thriller
Brandon Sklenar looking concerned as Henry in Drop
Blumhouse is one of the biggest names in horror, usually releasing anywhere between five and eight movies a year in the genre. The company operates with a specific business model, with most of their movies featuring high concepts, recognizable actors, and budgets less than $20 million. Drop, from the trailer, seems to meet these criteria, and the story looks to be contained to two main locations: Violet's house and the fancy upper floor restaurant.

With a focus on releasing low-budget features where creators maintain creative freedom, Blumhouse Productions has had an impressive array of releases.
Drop's trailer suggests that the film will be much closer to the thriller end of the spectrum than the horror end, with no real jumpscares featured in the footage. A key driver of the story will be Violet's attempts to subtly case out the restaurant for the perpetrator, but the mastermind responsible starts killing those around her after she becomes a little too curious. As for other actors featured in the trailer, audiences can expect to see Violett Beane, Ed Weeks, Travis Nelson, Jeffery Self, and Gabrielle Ryan.
Beane previously starred in Truth or Dare (2018), another Blumhouse horror movie.
Our Take On The Drop Trailer
Blumhouse's Latest Has The Ingredients To Be A Winner
Violett Beane looking terrified at a gun in Drop
With Drop's story being so contained, a lot of the film will ride on the quality of the script and the strength of the performances. The White Lotus certainly suggests Fahy is up to the task, and it will be interesting to see her as the anchor of this kind of thriller. Sklenar, too, is a highlight of 1923, making him a strong second lead.
Fahy is not expected to return in The White Lotus season 3, but Sklenar will be in 1923 season 2.
As is the case with Blumhouse horror thrillers, Drop will surely feature some surprising narrative twists, with not all characters likely to be who they seem. After Happy Death Day and its sequel, Landon seems like the perfect filmmaker to bring this kind of story to life, suggesting Drop could be another win for Blumhouse.

First dates are a near-universally stressful experience, but I can guarantee you've never had as bad of a first date as The White Lotus star Meghann Fahy has in the upcoming horror film Drop.
From director Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day) and Blumhouse (M3GAN, Five Nights at Freddy's), Drop introduces us to widowed mother Violet (Fahy) as she embarks on her first date in years. Her date in question is Henry (Brandon Sklenar, It Ends With Us), who winds up being lovely and charming. Yet despite Violet's chemistry with him, the date goes south when she begins to receive airdropped memes that threaten the lives of her son (Jacob Robinson) and babysitting sister (Violett Beane). Soon, she learns that a masked intruder is in her house and monitoring the restaurant's security cameras. With the intruder monitoring her every move, the only way Violet can save her family is by killing Henry. Will she go through with the plan? Or is there any way to salvage this date and stop the criminal mastermind engineering everything?
Drop hits theaters April 11.
The official Universal Pictures YouTube channel just recently dropped a trailer for what appears to be a film that's going to show that a seemingly perfect date can go horribly wrong with just one simple message. The movie is called 'Drop' and the trailer for it can be watched below.

'Drop' will be available to watch in theatres from April 11th, 2025 onwards.
Dating can be a chore — but for Meghann Fahy’s single-mother character in the upcoming Blumhouse thriller “Drop,” it can also quickly turn into a deadly game of iPhone cat and mouse.
Directed and co-written (with Jillian Jacobs) by Christopher Landon (“Happy Death Day”), the movie stars Fahy as a woman on a chic first date who is just starting to hit it off with the handsome man (Brandon Sklenar, “It Ends With Us”) across the table from her when her phone begins buzzing with notifications. Someone in the restaurant is Airdropping messages to her… messages that become increasingly personal and threatening when they include photos of her son. The rules to saving her boy are simple: She can’t tell anyone what’s going on… and she has to kill her date.

If anyone can accomplish a lot with just facial expressions, though, it might be Fahy, who scored an Emmy nomination for her work on “The White Lotus” Season 2.
The trailer reveals the movie to be luminously shot and suffused with some intense action sequences — including one of Fahy hanging out of a shattered picture window. Landon knows a thing or two about constructing crafty thrillers; in addition to the “Happy Death Day” franchise, he’s the director behind
“Freaky” and “We Have a Ghost.”
Joining Fahy in the cast are Sklenar, Violett Beane, Jacob Robinson, Ed Weeks, and Jeffery Self.
“Drop” is produced by Jason Blum (“Five Nights at Freddy’s,” “M3GAN”) for Blumhouse and by Michael Bay (“Transformers” films, “A Quiet Place” franchise), Brad Fuller (“A Quiet Place” films, “The Purge” franchise). and Cameron Fuller (the upcoming “Flycatcher and The Astronaut”) for Platinum Dunes. Ron Lynch and Sam Lerner are executive producers.
Universal will drop “Drop” in theaters April 11. Watch the trailer below. And remember to turn your phone to Do Not Disturb when you’re on a date.
