I needed a small dehumidifier in my home office as signs of mould are starting to appear. We have a similar small dehumidifier in the bathroom and that does a pretty good job but I wanted to try a different one for the office. The first one I got I sent back as it was just too noisy but this one from MONHOUSE claims to be low noise. We shall see about that.

In the box, you receive the dehumidifier itself, a UK power supply and a better than average user guide. The build quality all seems fine, light in weight but robust and built to last, so far as I can tell. At 13.5 x 17 x 23.5 cm and weighing in at 1.5 Kg, it is about the same size as the bathroom one. It claims to extract 450 ml/ daily, which is good for a small device like this one.

On the front, it has an LCD allowing you to check the real-time temperature and humidity level There is a small touch screen allowing you to select the target humidity you need and to control the colourful LED night light display. Accessible from the front is the detachable 1 Ltr water tank which you will have to empty every couple of days. The water tank has a flotation switch which will turn the dehumidifier off when the tank is full. On top is a soft carry handle to transport the unit.

Operation
Operation is simple enough, press the POWER button to switch it on, and press the droplet shaped button to set the target humidity level between 40% and 70%. The machine will turn off when that level is reached and on again when the humidity level exceeds it. The device is set to always on when two bars show in place of the target humidity level. The other button controls the rather impressive 7 colour scrolling night light display and allows you to select a colour and turn the display on and off without affecting the dehumidifier operation. There are two operating modes - always on and humidity controlled - no fan level control and no timer.

So how is it to use?
It does extract a decent amount of water from the air and is probably not far off from the 450ml claimed daily, certainly as good as if not better than any similar unit I have tried. It claims to have a noise level of <25dB, and although it is far from silent, it is certainly quieter than the similar unit in my bathroom and noise does soon blend into the background.

And that it is, that is all there is to it.

In use, it works well and will markedly reduce the humidity levels in any small room it is placed in and you can also use it to fast dry clothes. It is lightweight but feels well made and built to last, is not too large, easy to move and not too noisy.

Two problems with it concern me a bit.
When plugged in it does not start automatically, which means I cannot use an Alexa plug to timer control it.
The humidity reading from the unit is quite a bit lower than from other hygrometers positioned next to it. At this moment the MONHOUSE is reading 54%, another device says 71% the sensor I trust most says 65%.
That said, these are not major issues and the device does do a pretty good job overall.

I paid just under £30 for it including discounts and for that price, it is not a bad buy.
