On December 5, 2024, in Brooklyn's 77th Precinct, NYPD officers were involved in a fatal shooting of a male suspect wanted for a March 2024 homicide. The incident began around 2:57 p.m. when officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation at the Whitman Houses in Fort Greene. A witness described the suspect's vehicle, which officers later spotted near Fulton Street and Washington Avenue. The vehicle, driven by a female with the male suspect in the front passenger seat and a 3-year-old child in the back, led officers on a pursuit that ended at Utica Avenue and Park Place in Weeksville. There, the male suspect exited the vehicle holding a handgun and pointed it at the officers, prompting them to fire approximately 19 shots, resulting in his death. The female driver was wounded in the thigh and apprehended, while the child was unharmed. A semi-automatic handgun with an extended magazine was recovered at the scene.
