On December 23, 2024, Sergeant Ross responded to a collision in the 1500 block of SE Everett Mall Way. When he arrived, he found an unresponsive male trapped inside of a vehicle on fire. The accelerator of the vehicle was depressed, causing the wheels to spin. A vehicle in front of the car was holding it in place.

With the help of other responding aid crews, Sgt Ross broke the driver’s side window of the vehicle and was able to pull the driver to safety. While the driver was being assessed by medical personnel, the vehicle holding the car in place moved away. This caused the smoking vehicle to roll forward, into a busy intersection. An officer was able to steer the moving, smoldering vehicle off the roadway.

The driver was transported to the hospital for his injuries and later discharged after treatment.
