St. Pope Pius V was renowned for his leadership during the Counter-Reformation and for implementing the reforms of the Council of Trent. He is also famously remembered for his role in organizing the Holy League and securing the decisive Catholic victory at the Battle of Lepanto in 1571, which was a turning point in the struggle against the Ottoman Empire. Canonized in 1712, his papacy left a lasting impact on the Church, from liturgical reforms to his fervent defense of Catholicism.
