Living his nearly 30 years in the booming oil state of Texas, Robert E. Howard managed to educate himself in the classics. Inspired by his mother, he went well beyond what was the norm in education during the early 20th Century. This learning led him to write one of the most enduring swashbuckling characters in pulp literature, Conan the Barbarian.
However, Howard lived a troubled life where his despair impacted him greatly.
