Remembering Garth Hudson' and his accordion masterpiece! Reacting to The Band doing a Dylan Classic

I was saddened to hear that the last surviving member of The Band, Garth Hudson, passed away yesterday at the age of 87. Garth was the musical architect of the "Americana" sound that the group practically invented, starting in the late 1960s.

Born in Canada, the child of two musicians, he was classically trained from a young age, and played the organ in church and also at his Uncle's funeral home. He joined the band in 1961 after they agreed to buy him a Lowery Organ and pay him extra to give the rest of the members music lessons!

This song, "When I paint my Masterpiece," was written by Bob Dylan, but this version was the first released on The Band's 4th album "Cahoots" in 1971. The song was later released on a Greatest Hits album with Bob sining the lead backed by the Band, but I prefer this version with Levon Helm singing the lead and with Garth's amazing accordion play.
