METROPOLIS (1927, Madacy Video VHSRip)

As an addendum to my posting of the Crown Movie Classics edition of METROPOLIS, I now present the other infamous copy of the movie which made the rounds on home video. This one, however, came from the late 1990's and was released by Madacy Video.

For many years, this was the only version one could get of this Fritz Lang masterpiece and Madacy certainly had no qualms about regurgitating it out to the home video market countless times, with brand new packaging. Indeed, the copy I transferred came from Madacy's ten VHS boxset of science fiction films. In full transparency, I own two other Madacy editions of METROPOLIS, but this was the only one that would play properly as Madacy's tapes were recorded in the lowest quality EP mode on the world's cheapest tape stock imaginable.

Anyway, this version is notorious freeze-framed intertitles, the slow projection speed (seriously, Freder doesn't run, he just walks really fast in this version) and the atrocious "score" they plastered on takes the cake. Add to it, dismal picture quality and the EP speed making it worse and you've got a recipe for disaster. In the name of full disclosure, Madacy also released their version of METROPOLIS on DVD, but I figured you guys should see this in all of its grainy, muddled, EP moded glory. Plus, this has that otherwise bitchin' Madacy Video logo at the beginning with the hair metal music, I believe my buddy Ben Minnotte said it best "Zat you Yngwie?"

Also, the only reason I'm uploading to Rumble is because I tried uploading this years ago on YouTube and it got flagged for the music, hopefully Rumble will be kinder.
