The Definition of "Semite"

The word "Semite" is a mispronunciation of the Hebrew word, "Shemiyt", which refers to a son of Shem. There were a lot of sons of Shem listed in the Bible. Before the days of Avraham (Abraham to the English), they inhabited most of the Levant and large parts of the "Fertile Crescent". Sons of Hham lived in those same territories. Avraham, descended from Shem, also had a great many sons, among them, Ishmael, and many from Keturah, his second wife. These are the progenitors of the modern Arab (meaning wanderer). They too, are sons of Shem, or "Shemiyt".
