Grants Pass v. Johnson remains a controversial decision. Defenders say the decision has empowered state and local governments to clear homeless camping areas that have become increasingly dangerous. Critics say the decision is just another way to further hurt people who don’t have stable and safe housing. Whatever your opinion is about this decision, the fact remains that there is currently a major housing crisis in the United States that is only getting worse. Last year, homelessness in the country rose to its highest level ever. More than 771,000 Americans currently don’t have stable and safe housing. Nearly 150,000 of those Americans are children. And a big reason why? Housing has never been more expensive than it is right now. Until the United States fixes its housing crisis, expect more folks lacking housing to suffer.
