Sewimng machine - can't remove fabric material

On old vintage sewing machines, after sewing we must turn the handwheel by hand to unlock the thread from the lower bobbin by bringing the needle just past the highest position. Otherwise the material will be stuck by the lower thread and cannot be removed.
