Grieving

Life has a way of bringing everyone to places of grief and sadness. Part of life is to experience loss, and losses evoke the perfectly healthy and normal emotions of depression, sadness, grieving, and mourning. The problem is not that we might feel these destructive emotions as a result of a loss. The problem appears when, instead of going through grief, we stay in grief, sadness, and regrets.

Because everyone experiences loss and the associated emotions of depression and grief, to keep from getting stuck in depression and grief, we all need to develop for ourselves a grieving process. This teaching presents a successful grieving process. But, this teaching also highlights some of the many losses that are generally experienced, but not grieved. When we experience a loss and do not grief that loss, then the destructive emotions of that loss get buried down on the inside of us and begin to fester and, eventually, cause us troubles and we do not even know where the pain and trouble is coming from.

This teaching even suggests strategies for handling and healing of the grief that comes from a wayward child.
