The Many Colors of the Light

Hagit Rabbi, the founder of Alma School for Humanity, in a special live lecture directly from our school's center in Nigeria, Africa.

Hagit shares her thoughts from Africa:
..."As I reflected on our recent time in Nigeria, where we gratefully and joyfully celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony of our new center in Africa, I was reminded of the profound words of Israeli poet Yehuda Amichai in his poem “Miracles”:

“From a distance, everything looks like a miracle, but from up close, even a miracle doesn’t look like one. Even he who crossed the Red Sea when it parted saw only the sweaty back of the person who walked in front of him...”

The poet’s observation struck a chord within me. Extreme conditions can cloud our perception, making it difficult to recognize the magnitude of a miracle as it unfolds.

Miracles are often only understood when viewed from a different perspective, usually in hindsight. I often wondered how the Israelites, during their exodus from
Egypt, failed to recognize and appreciate the miracles along their journey, instead succumbing to constant complaints.
