"Do not attempt the Are You There? challenge!" It's a bad idea - you might end up dead! Dark Sky Films has unveiled an official trailer for indie horror thriller titled Are You There?, directed by indie filmmaker Kim Noonan. It's getting a small release and will be available on VOD to watch this February if anyone is curious. Paranormal psychology student Rosa Gonzalez lights a ritual candle used to contact the dead... When she then asks, "Are You There?" she opens a door to a demonic game of 20 questions. After lighting summoning candle, it ignites a life and death game of questions to answer. As the candle melts down, so does her chance of survival. She discovers some questions are best left unanswered... Starring Laura Sollet as Rosa, plus Eva Meyerson, Madison Geiger, Mbeng Klovis, Chase Bridges, and Kay Galvin. This looks like an obvious direct-to-video genre release, but at least they tried creating a freaky game concept for this horror.

Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Kim Noonan's horror film Are You There?, direct from YouTube:

2025 might be the year of horror — whether a video game franchise adaptation, a horror movie starring Cillian Murphy, or a vampire period piece, the 2025 horror movie lineup has something for all tastes. Although 2024's horror movie releases brought many great scares with works by M. Night Shamalayan, Ti West, and Tim Burton, next year promises to be one of a kind. With the return of popular horror writers and directors, among them Insidious and Saw creator Leigh Whannell, fans of the genre will have a chance to explore some terrifying stories every month.

2025 comes hot with the continuation of Renny Harlin's The Strangers trilogy, a Stephen King adaptation by Longlegs' director, the revival of the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise, as well as many new titles that offer a twist to their genre and promise a thrilling theatrical experience. Not only that, but next year brings seven Blumhouse productions, including the final installment of The Conjuring and M3GAN 2.0. With upcoming movie releases from hit studios like NEON, legacy sequels to fan-favorite franchises, and long-awaited classic monster adaptations, the 2025 horror movie slate is to scream for.

The first chapter of Liongsgate’s The Strangers trilogy sequel received mixed reviews for being a close remake to Bertino’s horror classic. However, director Renny Harlin hyped the coming chapters by revealing that they go further and deeper into exploring the masked killers’ origins in the town of Venus.

The movie follows up on Maya, played by actress Madelaine Petsch, recovering from the attack in the first installment. The Strangers: Chapter 2 cast has made key additions to the trilogy, and hinted at them to be the faces behind the masks, strongly determined to terrorize the final girl.

"This is not at all how I wanted everything to go..." Uh oh. Dark Sky Films has released a full trailer for the Australian indie psychological horror film called Birdeater, which played at the 2024 SXSW Film Festival earlier this year. We posted a teaser back then just before its US debut - now set to hit theaters in January after a festival run this year. Birdeater is an unsettling thriller that "represents a visually striking and daring debut from this Australian duo." A bride-to-be joins her fiance's bachelor party up in the remote Australian Outback. As the festivities spiral into beer-soaked chaos, uncomfortable details about their relationship are exposed, turning the celebration into a feral nightmare. Starring Shabana Azeez, Mackenzie Fearnley, Ben Hunter, Jack Bannister, Clementine Anderson, Alfie Gledhill, Harley Wilson, and Caroline McQuade. This looks super messed up and strange and extremely crazy. It's definitely not for everyone.

Here's the official US trailer (+ new poster) for Jack Clark & Jim Weir's horror Birdeater, from YouTube:

Birdeater Horror Film

You can rewatch the teaser trailer for Jack Clark & Jim Weir's Birdeater horror right here, for the first look.

A bride-to-be is invited to join her own fiancé’s bachelor party on a remote property in the Australian outback. But as the festivities spiral into beer-soaked chaos, uncomfortable details about their relationship are exposed, and the celebration soon becomes a feral nightmare. Birdeater is co-directed by Australian filmmakers Jack Clark & Jim Weir, both making their feature directorial debut after a few other short films and projects previously. The screenplay is written by Jack Clark. It's produced by Stephanie Troost & Ulysses Oliver. The film first premiered at the 2023 Sydney Film Festival in July last year. It also screened at the 2024 SXSW Film Festival earlier this year, and it played at the Edinburgh Film Festival in Scotland. Dark Sky Films will debut Birdeater in select US theaters starting on January 10th, 2025 early next year.
It’s rare for a studio to become a brand, but A24 has managed it. Since its humble beginnings as a New York-based distribution company founded by Daniel Katz, David Fenkel, and John Hodges in August 2012, A24 has become synonymous with quality for film lovers, the place that releases the must-see indies everyone is talking about.

A24’s first film was the little-seen and little-loved “A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III” from Roman Coppola, which hit theaters in February 2013 to muted fanfare. But the movie that really put the company on the map was “Spring Breakers,” Harmony Korine’s wild crime comedy that released in March that same year and established many of the conventions associated with the brand: Artful neon cinematography, shocking content and stylized violence, and cool-kid cleverness suffused in every frame. That’s not to say every movie that the company distributes is like “Spring Breakers” — the majority aren’t — but its release made A24 hip in a way a film distribution company usually isn’t.

Since 2013, A24 has grown quickly to release an impressive slate of acclaimed movies each year. It’s become the destination for great arthouse horror, putting out modern genre classics such as “Under the Skin,” “The Witch,” and “Green Room.” It’s released Oscar winners and nominees, like “Room,” “Ex Machina,” “Lady Bird,” and “Aftersun.”

In 2016, the company began branching into production, and the first film it produced — Barry Jenkins’ “Moonlight” — won Best Picture in a landmark Oscar moment. Since then, its production output has exploded, and the films A24 has had a hand in financing and backing — “Hereditary,” “Eighth Grade,” “Uncut Gems,” “The Green Knight,” and “Past Lives” — have been wildly acclaimed. And with 2023’s “Everything Everywhere All at Once” — another Oscar winner — A24 had their biggest hit yet, as the Daniels’ action comedy grossed over $100 million worldwide.

So what’s next for A24? Looking ahead in 2025, there’s plenty of interesting films to get excited about, including movies from acclaimed directors like Spike Lee, David Lowery, Benny and Josh Safdie (separately, not together), Ari Aster, and many more. That’s not even getting into other projects still in development, which ensure that A24 and its films should remain as buzzy as they’ve always been.

Here’s a look at all the films currently in the works at A24, listed in order of expected release; titles without a release window are listed alphabetically. This list will be updated as new films and release dates are announced.
Dark Sky Films has released a poster and trailer for director Kim Noonan’s supernatural horror Are You There?.

Paranormal psychology student Rosa Gonzalez lights a ritual candle used to contact the dead. When she asks, “Are You There?” she opens a door to a demonic game of 20 questions.
